Ramon, which lies some 10 to 12 kilometers north of Santiago was legislated into existence as a town, from what used to be barrio Bugallon of Santiago, taking some barrios from San Mateo and Santiago to become a political entity of its own.
The place then, because it was a barrio of Santiago, was served by the priest stationed in Santiago parish with various priests taking to attend to the spiritual needs of the people. When the La Salette Missionaries arrived in 1948, Ramon became a mission of Santiago with the Asst. Pastor of Santiago taking charge of this mission.
From 1964 to 1966 when Bugallon became a town, Ramon remained a quasi-parish. It was only in 1978 when a priest started residing at the place in a convent/rectory built at the back of the church. On March 28, 1981 the Bishop of the Diocese of Ilagan, Msgr. Miguel Puruggannan, DD canonically erected Ramon into the status of a parish with Fr. Conrad Blanchet, MS as its first La Salette parish priest.
Just recently, Bishop Sergio Utleg, DD, the Ordinary of the Diocese of Ilagan, offered the the Parish of San Roque to remain under the "in perpetuum" care of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.
The Provincial Superior, in deliberation with his Council, accepted the
offer in its 94/04 decision in their meeting June 29, 2004.
The current parish priest is Fr.
Arnold Macabio, MS who was installed onl July 2006. He
succeeded Fr. Job Callarackal, MS who was transferred to the La Salette
Scholasticate Formation House as its Director in Hillcrest, Quezon City. |
