La Salette of Roxas was founded in June 1, 1957. On September 13th of the same year, it was incorporated. Its first Director was Fr. Emery Des Rochers, MS while its first principal was Mr. Elpidio Menrije, who handled the school from school year 1957-58 to school year 1958-59. He was followed by Ms. Purita M. Dychitan who was the principal of the school year 1959-60. From 1960-64, it was ably handled by Ms. Leonor C. Garcia, who is now Sr. Leonor C. Garcia, MS – the regional Superior of the La Salette Sisters, in the Philippines.
In May 1964, the Vice-Provincial of the La Salette Missionaries entered into an agreement with the General Superior of the congregation of the Franciscans of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Mother of God (CFIC) for the sisters to take charge of the Principalship, religion classes, and guidance services of the school. The first principal was Mother Angeline Atabug, CFIC who handled the position form 1964-70. She was succeeded by other sisters in the congregation until the year 1979 when the Principalship was turned over to the lay people. However, the Sisters up to the present time retained the Christian Formation Program and Guidance Services.
Originally, the school sat on a lot that is 20,000 square meters. Later, the school campus expanded with acquisition of an adjacent lot of 3,358 square meters in July 1960 and another lot of 10,000 square meters in the November 1964.
The main building, which was built in 1958, housed the gymnasium, the library, chapel and nine classrooms. The Physical Plant was later expanded with the conversion of the Sisters' Convent into six classrooms in 1975, the building of St. Alphonse Hall with four classrooms in 1981 and the construction of the St. Francis Hall with seven classrooms in later years so that in 1984-1985, Building I from east to west, already housed nine classrooms, the stage and auditorium, Faculty Room and Comfort Room, the Administrative Officers and the Guidance Center in the 2nd floor. Building II from east to west also housed the Director’s Office, the HE, Clinic, 5 classrooms and 3 more rooms for varied purposes. Though the years from SY 1985-88, the school grew with more buildings constructed until there were 9 buildings in all each one housing so many classrooms and offices. |
